Castle Fog

I am happy to share the project I have been making in the evenings for the last month :D

The idea for this environment came after experimenting with volumetric cloud shader and I am happy to share the results!

Whole environment was crafted from scratch using Houdini combined with Substance Designer, Zbrush, Speedtree and rendered in Unreal Engine 5. The focus was more on the large-scale rendering, making sure most shaders are as cheap as possible. Even though surface materials were not the main point, I also decided to include them as an example of something hidden behind the fog :D

Heavily inspired by games like Demon Souls and Elden Ring, a new genre I discovered for myself only this winter. The environment itself is 8km x 8km with 2km in height utilizing Houdini tools for terrain, clouds, water, slopes, and macro detail scattering.
